Flashcards

Any bullet can be a flashcard, to learn what you write with spaced repetition. The bullet and its note are the front, and everything under it is the back. A card under another card shows only its front there.

Open the menu of a bullet and click Make flashcard, or press Ctrl+Shift+F. With bullets selected, Ctrl+Shift+F makes them all cards.

Under its note, a card shows when it is due, as “New” or “Due today”. Click that to Suspend the card until you Resume it, Reset progress, or Remove flashcard.

Click Flashcards in the sidebar menu, then Review. It goes through the cards due today, then the new ones.

  1. Read the front, then press Space or click Show answer.
  2. Grade how well you remembered: Again, Hard, Good or Easy. Each grade shows when the card comes back, as “3d” for 3 days.

FSRS sets when each card is due, a day or more ahead. A card graded Again also comes back later in the same session, with only Again (1) and Got it (2, Space or Enter).

Key What it does
Space or Enter Shows the answer, then grades Good
1 to 4 Grades Again, Hard, Good or Easy
Ctrl+Z Takes back the last grade
S Skips the card for this session
E Goes to the card in the editor

While TreeWrite is read-only, you can practice but not grade.

Review the cards here, in the menu of a bullet or of the view, reviews that bullet and the cards under it. It shows only when there are cards there. You can also filter the cards by tags.

Practice without scheduling goes through every card, due or not, and changes nothing. Again (1) sends a card to the end, and Got it (2, Space or Enter) takes it out. Shuffle the practice mixes the order.

In Settings › Flashcards:

Setting What it does
Desired retention The chance of remembering a card when it is due. Higher asks for more reviews
New cards a day For the whole document
Limit the reviews of a day Sets a maximum of reviews a day
The day starts at (hour) A review before this hour counts for the day before

The Statistics tab shows the cards due in the coming days, your Activity, your Real retention, your Collection of new, young, mature and suspended cards, and the Troublesome cards you forget most.

On a published site, anyone can practice your cards. Nothing of what you learned is published, and nothing is kept.
